Where employees are exposed to workplace hazards - whether that's noise, vibration, chemicals, dust or respiratory sensitisers - Health Surveillance is a legal requirement. Our structured monitoring programmes identify early signs of work-related ill health before more serious problems develop, helping you meet your obligations under UK Health and Safety law. Delivered on-site through our mobile health surveillance units, our service supports organisations across manufacturing, construction, food production, healthcare and beyond.

Occupational skin disease is one of the most common work-related health conditions in the UK, yet it is frequently missed until symptoms become serious. Our Skin Surveillance service monitors employees exposed to hazardous substances, wet work, skin irritants and sensitising agents, identifying early signs of occupational dermatitis before they escalate. Required under COSHH regulations where relevant exposure is identified, our service includes baseline checks, ongoing visual inspections, structured questionnaires and clear compliance reporting.
Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent - but it is also largely preventable with the right monitoring in place. We deliver accredited Audiometry Testing for employees working in high-noise environments, using calibrated equipment and mobile quiet rooms to ensure accurate results on-site. Under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, hearing surveillance is legally required where noise exposure reaches or exceeds 85 dB(A). Our structured reporting helps employers detect early threshold shifts, review exposure controls and demonstrate compliance.
Respiratory diseases such as occupational asthma and COPD often develop gradually - by the time symptoms appear, significant damage may already have occurred. Our workplace Spirometry service measures lung capacity, airflow and respiratory function, helping to identify early changes in employees exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals or other airborne hazards. Required under COSHH regulations for many industries, our Lung Function Testing is delivered on-site via our mobile health surveillance units, with clear reporting to support compliance and early intervention.

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome is an occupational health condition caused by repeated exposure to vibrating tools and machinery. Without early detection, it can cause permanent damage to the blood vessels, nerves and joints of the hands and arms. Our HAVS Testing service covers Tier 1 through to Tier 4 assessments, from initial health questionnaires through to detailed clinical examination where required. Delivered through our mobile units directly within your workplace, our service helps employers meet their obligations under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations and protect long-term employee health.
When an employee's health is affecting their attendance, safety or performance, a Management Referral provides the expert, independent assessment needed to move forward. Our referral process is built around rapid response and clear communication - employees are contacted within 24 hours, offered an appointment within 5 working days, and reports are returned to the HR representative within 48 hours of completion. Delivered in-person, on-site or via Telehealth, all referrals are completed by a Flex Health specialist, whether that's an Occupational Health Nurse, Physiotherapist, or Physician.

Substance misuse in the workplace poses serious risks to safety, performance and wellbeing - particularly in safety-critical industries. Our Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing services include random testing programmes, for-cause testing following incidents, pre-employment screening, and train-the-trainer services for organisations that require in-house capability. We deliver across the UK with legally defensible procedures, flexible on-site testing and clear policy guidance, helping organisations maintain a safe working environment and support employees appropriately.

A structured Pre-Employment Medical helps employers understand whether a candidate is medically fit for a role, and whether any reasonable adjustments may be needed before they start. Our service includes pre-placement questionnaires, new starter medical assessments, and bespoke role-specific medicals tailored to the demands of the job and workplace. Depending on the role, assessments may include Spirometry, Audiometry, Skin Surveillance and Musculoskeletal review - all reviewed by our experienced occupational health professionals and completed with fast turnaround.

Occupational health isn't just for large organisations. In smaller businesses, the impact of a long-term absence or unmanaged health concern can be felt quickly and significantly. Whether you need a one-off assessment, ongoing health surveillance, or guidance on managing an employee's health concern, we provide fast access to expert advice without the complexity or cost associated with large retained contracts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Occupational Health?

Occupational health focuses on keeping employees healthy at work, preventing work-related illnesses, and supporting those returning after sickness. It includes Health Assessments, Health Surveillance, workplace adaptations and ongoing advice to promote employee wellbeing and productivity.

What are the benefits of having an occupational health provider?

An Occupational Health Service helps businesses reduce sickness absence, improve employee wellbeing and ensure a safe working environment. Which businesses should have an occupational health provider?

Any business can benefit from Occupational Health Support. It is particularly important for organisations with physically demanding roles, safety-critical jobs, or workforces exposed to hazardous substances, noise or vibration.
