Occupational Health Skin Surveillance

Skin Assessments:

• During a skin assessment, a healthcare professional will complete a specific questionnaire followed by an examination of the skin for any abnormalities, irritations, or conditions related to the workplace.
• The assessment helps identify potential dermatitis, contact allergies, or other skin-related health concerns.
• The assessment will also ensure that all employees are working within HSE guidelines i.e. using the correct gloves and using creams.

Skin health surveillance focuses on identifying employees exposed to substances that may cause skin damage.

Key steps to include:

• Establishing a baseline of existing skin issues (before or shortly after starting a new role).
• Regular re-assessment through examination and questioning (usually annually).
• Referring employees to their GP for further assessment.
• Consulting with occupational health advisers (nurses) or occupational health physicians (doctors) for workplace guidance.
