This week, BBC News shared a powerful story about two children, Marley and Meadow, both living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) – a rare, progressive, and potentially life-limiting genetic condition. Their journeys highlight just how important early diagnosis and rehabilitation is for children with rare neuromuscular conditions.
When Early Intervention Makes All the Difference
Five-year-old Marley was diagnosed with the condition at five months old, meaning treatment for him started later. His younger sister Meadow, however, was tested at birth and received gene therapy within weeks. As a result, today she is meeting all her developmental milestones.
Their story highlights a simple truth: Early detection changes everything.
Flex Health’s Role in Marley’s Progress
At Flex Health, we are incredibly proud to have been part of Marley’s ongoing rehabilitation, who has made remarkable progress. His mum, Rosie, shared that he once could not sit up unaided – and now, thanks to persistence, therapy, and breakthrough treatments, he can sit independently and enjoys school life alongside his peers.
Working in Partnership With Families
At our clinics, our specialists work hand-in-hand with families living with neurological and neuromuscular conditions. We understand that every child’s journey is different, therefore, our therapy plans are always built around their goals, strengths and day-to-day needs.
Our children’s physiotherapy and rehabilitation services include:
- Specialist paediatric physiotherapy
- Neurological rehabilitation for a wide range of conditions

- Ongoing rehabilitation designed around each child’s progress
- Holistic support to help families embed therapy into daily life
A Message of Hope
Marley and Meadow’s story reinforces the message we share with all our families:
With the right support, progress is always possible.
