HAVS Testing (Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome)

HAVs occurs when workers are exposed to excessive vibration form hand-held tools or other sources. Employees who may be at risk due to vibration exposure should receive HAVs health surveillance. The assessment includes monitoring symptoms, assessing vibration exposure levels, and identifying early signs of HAVs.

Tier 1 Assessment: The tier 1 assessment services as an initial screening before an employee starts working with vibration tools.

Process:

  • The employee completes a short and simple pre-assessment questionnaire.
  • An Occupational Health professional reviews the questionnaire.
  • This assessment helps identify potential symptoms related to HAVs.

Tier 2 Assessment: The tier 2 assessment occurs annually for employees who remain exposed to vibrating tools.

Process:

  • Employees complete a similar short and simple screening questionnaire.
  • The assessment is for those without existing symptoms.

Tier 3 and 4 HAVs Process:

Referrals are based on the assessment results, regular follow-up assessments are crucial to prevent further damage. If an employee shows symptoms or significant exposure, they may be referred for further evaluation to tier 3 (Occupational Health Nurse), tier 4 (Occupational Health Physician). Referrals could include more detailed clinical examinations, specialist assessments, or additional health surveillance.

The goal is to manage and prevent the progression of HAVs and related conditions.
